An equally ridiculous notion, in my view, is that the radical Islamists (not all of whom live in the ME, by the way) who have dedicated themselves to jihad against America will suddenly lose interest if we pull out of Iraq. They seem to be people who are spectacularly good at holding grudges, if nothing else.
Well this point leads to a conclusion that it really doesn't matter what the US does, in Iraq or wherever, since those radicals that are dedicated to hurting the US will do so, regardless.
But walk me through it - once the US leaves Iraq, what exactly happens that results in an increase in Islamic fundamentalists attacking US interests?
The greater danger is that there are more and more of them all the time.
My point is that once the US leaves Iraq there are two likely outcomes, 1- the population of radical Islamists - at least in Iraq - that might turn their hatred toward the US should probably decline as there will likely be a Muslim opponent a lot closer to home. And "foreign jihadis" that are in neighboring countries can go fight their Sunni-Shia battle in Iraq rather than fly to Mexico to sneak in and bomb the Texas mall of the departed super power. The radical will focus on his enemy neighbor three blocks away rather than the people of Austin, Texas or the US embassy in Nigeria. Or.....2- things actually improve in Iraq once we're gone, leading to less radicalization.
If you're worried about an increase in Islamic radicals in Norway hitting the US embassy, it seems departing Iraq will decrease their number rather than increase it. But, if they are generational grudge holders as you claim, with a hatred stemming from support for Israel and the original invasion of Iraq, then US actions really don't matter much anyway, do they?
As I believe I've pointed out before, my views on this are backed up by what our own Intelligence services have said not too long ago.
Well, I'm just spouting my own ideas which are not backed up by anybody but me. I don't claim any expertise in the area of Islamic radicals, just trying to make my own hunches on what may come to pass. I can't even begin to fathom the suicide car bomber who kills his former neighbors to protest......something. I think he's nuts. |
