The hardest events to understand will the major political ones - Sinking of the US Battleship Maine in Havana harbor, Zimmer telegram , sinking of Lusitania, Reichstag fire, Gulf of Tonkin attack, etc.
These events often have biased reports, phoney evidence, cut outs, red herrings, etc.
******
A good example of the phoney stuff was the "records" of GW Bush's pilot evaluations from the 1970s which showed up in 2004. Careful examination by various experts on the internet showed them to have been done in Microsoft Word, and not possible on any typewritter in use by the Air National Guard at the time.
************
Fascinating exercise.
That one could in any stretch of fantasy compare the Bush reporting debacle with anything of truly historic significance.
The fact that a significant faction of the populace was able to ignore the facts of Bush' well documented, abortive, National Guard "service" and somehow rationalize his abysmal record as being offset by an alleged error in presentation of a minor fact of that sham service is startling.
What may well come of this, is the truly historic significance that such a ridiculous charade may well have contributed to the election of an incompetent dry-drunk president who hastened and presided over the demise of the USA as a world power.
Having exhibited truly historic incompetence in dealing with the US economy, 9/11, Katrina, Iraq....ad nauseum...
In that sense, your observation may well rank as a major political event. |
