Rodney, I live in Maryland, and so I'm fairly familiar with the current political climate in regards to legalized gaming operations. Although Ann Arundel County does allow for profit bingo centers, adjacent Prince George's County just revoked the law allowing so-called charitable Las Vegas style gaming operations (e.g., for churches, fire houses, etc..), and the govenor has been strongly against allowing video gaming into state race tracks (as Delaware and W. Virginia have recently done). Gov. Glendening is very anti-gaming, and so is the current political atmosphere. Maryland has had a long history of illegal gaming problems, particularly in Southern Maryland where Calvert and P.G. Counties lie. (Also note, Ann Arundel does NOT include the southern part of Baltimore. Baltimore is an independent city and is not within any county boundary. Ann Arundel does include the southern suburbs of Baltimore, such as Glen Burnie). Hope this info sheds some light on the difficulties with establishing and maintaining any kind of gaming operations in the State of Maryland (other than horse racing). I'm not sure what Calvert County's political atmosphere is on gaming, but Maryland is not a real secure place to establish any gaming operation since the rules can change quite quickly.
