Would you like to go to this, or is it too country for you? I'd give my eye teeth to go..
Volunteer Jam
I'll have to say that I'm excited about what begins in Greenville, SC this Friday night. It's the very first show of the Volunteer Jam Tour. We're getting together with two old friends, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Outlaws to do a show the likes of which has not been done in many years.
We're going to kick the stops out, we're going to bring back the southern jam. Nobody likes to jam like a southern boy and I'm sure looking forward to getting on stage with my buddies and letting er rip.
Years ago when we toured with The Marshall Tucker Band, we'd do our show, MTB would do theirs and then we'd bring both bands back out on the stage with three sets of drums, bunches of guitars, Jerry's sax and one lone fiddle.
We'd choose a song that everybody knew and launch off into a wild, long, free form, hot jam, a stage full of musicians kicking and cooking and having too much fun.
It¹s been a long time folks but that's what going to happen at the Volunteer Jam shows this year. It's been too long since the world has seen a sure enough jam.
Oh I know there are a lot of great jam bands out there and maybe one or two people will come by and sit in with them once in a while, but I'm talking about a whole stage full of rowdy southern boys all trying to outdo each other and folks that's a beautiful thing to experience.
This is going to be such a special tour for me. I'll be remembering all the times I spent with Toy and Tommy Caldwell, Ronnie Van Zandt, Alan Collins, Leon Wilkerson and all the other good ol boys who have gone on.
I've stood on stage with Toy and Tommy Caldwell, the sweat pouring and the music so hot and all of us straining to kick it up another notch.
It's such a special feeling when you get a bunch of like-minded guys on stage and the music takes over, when everybody gets in the same groove and the crowd gets into it and the pickers and the people are rocking out.
We'll be doing about twenty or so of these Volunteer Jam shows around the country with the Marshall Tucker Band and The Outlaws and I hope you folks get a chance to experience one.
It's gonna be tough on guitar picks and fiddle bows.
Pray for our troops
What do you think?
God Bless America
