Whatever is happening in Iraq, it is clearly much more complex than the news reports let on:

Apparently, it is believed (as the French and Russians ALREADY KNEW in 2002) that there is considerable potential for oil to exist in the Anbar region of Iraq. That's why they didn't want the US to invade.. they had contracts worth hundreds of billions of dollars with Saddam's government, all waiting for the lifting of sanctions.

But you can't drill for oil if you're worried about the rigs getting blown up. And without the oil, the Sunnis will be sucking "hind teat" to the established oil fields in Shi'a and Kurd held areas.
