Two points:
Uhmm, I think you only made one point.
this makes you different from the Dems, who are claiming they wuz fooled to avoid responsibility for their 20002 vote,
They were mislead by GB. He may have honestly mislead them, but they were mislead. We all were. And its the same as the doctor analogy. The doctor really thought the gerbil was a large cancerous tumor, and he convinced the patient of the same. George and the doctor may have done their best and made an honest mistake, but they still mislead the Dems and the patient.
and who, as members of the legislative branch of government, maintain the power the purse so cannot disclaim all responsibility for the running of the war.
Yeah, I think the Dems are using their power of the purse now to exercise greater responsibility for running the "war", and the Dems have decided to end it within the next 12 months. Rather than end it chaotically in 2 weeks by immediately cutting funding, they've given GB however many months notice that time is up. The Dems gained power over Congress in the '06 elections, and they are using it to end the activity in Iraq. Seems pretty straightforward to me.
But we were discussing the responsibility for the decision to invade Iraq in the first place. Come on, you've gotta place that almost fully on GB, right? With leadership comes responsibility for decisions taken under your lead.
When the doctor misdiagnosed the patient, convinced the patient that the surgery was the best approach, killed the patient during the surgery, and then realized his diagnosis was way off, who in the world is responsible? Not the credit card company that allowed the patient to pay for the surgery in advance - the doctor!
This is where your doctor analogy breaks down.
I think it holds up pretty well. |
