Houston is most definitely booming because of oil. The Bushies including their OPEC pals conspired to double the price of gasoline and also Bushies sent a lot of big pork barrel projects to Texas. There has been a huge power and money grab by the rightwingers in Texas going on since the summer of 2000 when Enron first led the energy gouging attacks against the west coast. This is what happens when too much power is concentrated in too specialized an area of interest in the country. Bush-Cheney, two oilmen plus Delay, former chemical pesticide salesman, running things, and Rove as well. The rest of the country has really gotten ripped off.
