Harry and all, here is the second article I've seen that describes a company that is developing a possible mainframe class platform around the Intel IA-64 chip family, first of which is Merced. The other platform developer I saw is Bull in France. I have to believe that HP and Compaq are doing their own versions, since they are "in bed" with Intel on the Merced architecture and design, and, why not go after the high end market. Sun and others will also be there I'm sure. The article mentions "mission critical applications, fault tolerance, availability, scalability, high performance enterprise computing, call home and 24X7 problem resolution and support, etc. These are all the right words. Of course, they have to implement it right, also.

I know this is in the future (1999 and beyond), but it gives me, as an Intel stockholder, warm fuzzies knowing that the huge 64 bit market, as well as the "huger" <g> 32 bit market which will continue to expand, will be very lucrative for Intel.
I also know that there are those that think stocks should be evaluated from a strictly TA point of view, rather than fundamental or technological. I think that's pure nonsense at least medium and long term.
