volvo, the two owners i know ,, one bought after his wife lost her leg below the knee in an accident. the other after their son with seat belt on, had his truck go out of control on ice and hit a tree and threw him out of the truck, he was shook up but not injured. one person i would say came from a successful family the other middle income but great at saving money and buying on sales. in fact he mostly bought cars at government auctions in the past. this was his own gift upon retirement.
Both couples bought volvo for safety, i think bmw is extremely safe car.
me,,? i bought a used bmw 540, my gift on retirement, and i could well afford it during market, hay days. although i gave up most of the gains back , still have my 97 bmw.g I put about 4000 miles a year on it these last few years.
A friend of mine who's wife worked at a r insurance broker said (1982 los angles) 90% of cars were leased. and to her surprise a lot of people out there lease household furniture.
