There is certainly that possibility. One of the reasons China refuses to float the yuan is that they know this will result in a recession. They have a corrupt banking system. So they are working to fix that furiously, but it's hard to do when the whole culture is one based on favors and bribes.

What I don't understand is where all the money is coming to finance the new construction in Chinese cities; construction that remains unoccupied. I have to assume at some point the money will run out.
