I had XP running for 5 years without any ill effects.

So you never had XP lockup and had to reboot? Sorry but that is just not believeable.

About every other day I have some sort of "memory leak" problem where my XP machine gets unbearably slow, then I need to reboot, during the reboot phase the icons on my desktop that I was using flash on and off (this is because there are multiple copies of these in memory, I am told).

Also whenever I use IE (which I don't like but one of my companies uses it) in conjunction with adobe acrobat reader it locks up.

You are saying this kind of thing never happens to you? i don't think I have ever met any windows user that did not have to reboot at least once every 48 hrs (assuming they are using the PC)
