If you have a hybrid that will get you the first 50 miles on electric, then switch to gas-electric after that, sure the public will buy them. All they need to do is add a plug-in with higher capacity batteries to the Prius and you're there.

Let's talk about hurting the economy. We've spent $600B in Iraq so far and more every year. We're there because of oil. We continue to pour out $300B in oil imports every year. That's money out of our pockets and into the pockets of terrorist spawning countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Venezuela. 25 cents of every dollar you spend on gasoline goes to people that are not U.S. citizens. Oil acts a direct tax on our economy.

Then GM and Ford are going down the tubes, because they don't get that the consuming public wants cars that get higher mpg. Toyota is number 1 and they have all the intellectual property around hybrids and probably will be first to own the IP around all electric vehicles.

And you think that is good for our economy?

The economy of the future will be based on clean, renewable tech. The US is already falling behind in this game and yet people like you persist in sticking your head in the sand. It defies logic.
