Social Security is extremely popular and for good reason. Before there was social security old people would literally starve to death or freeze to death.

If you're against Social Security you're a person void of compassion. Maybe you have never known anyone poor in your life so maybe you're just sheltered, or an alitist who doesn't care about the poor or struggling, which is very un-Christian, but there are tens of millions of people in this country who would literally die in the streets if it were not for Social Security.

Also, any politician who tries to screw with SS will be destroyed.

The GOP's motive for screwing with SS is pure selfish greed for the elite Wall Street class. They see trillions of dollars there and realize that if they could just slice off 10% as a commission they would make a huge fortune. But it's pure piracy. Privatization is a proven ripoff scheme and failure on all levels. Government programs work much better and are much more cost efficient. One reason why the rightwing attack on government as a whole is so harmful to our country. And so hypocritical since Reagan and GW Bush are the two biggest deficit spenders ever. Aslo the privatization of our military in Iraq has been a huge disaster and waste of money.
