Gun shows are quite interesting experiences, I agree. Lots of people from all different walks of life.
I went to my first gun show to buy my first handgun.
A friend of mine had a situation where a man was actually trying to break into her apartment, she could see him through the door curtains, and she called 911 and her dad, and her dad got there first, with a gun, and scared the man away.
If she had a gun, she could have protected herself.
My own dad was almost 100 miles away.
So, I bought a gun, and learned how to shoot.
Did it make me feel safer? Yes, it did. Especially since not too long before that, a man tried to rape me in my own apartment, a traumatic experience that I have described in more detail on SI long ago. To cut to the chase, I grabbed the knife out of his hand and tried to kill him with it. No guns there, either offense or defense.
I have another friend who carried a concealed handgun when she went to New York City. Very pretty girl, red hair and buxom. A group of men accosted her on the street, and she opened her coat to show her gun and said, "you must be joking," and they left her alone.
I did use my own gun once for defense, but that's another story. |
