Very sweet--and a good-looking movie. The musical theme gets repetitive, and the movie drags a bit toward the end, but glad I rented it. B+
en.wikipedia.org Say, what happened to Curse of the Golden Flower? I don't remember it playing here--and it is already out on DVD?!
Now, what to say about Excalibur. Pretty rough. I am now thinking that I did rent the DVD a couple years ago and wasn't able to watch the whole movie. Anyway, in a nutshell, it leaves you wanting to rent Monty Pyton and the Holy Grail, and maybe Zardoz too for some laughs, but not right away. Iktomi--your comment about editing was spot on. I have to give Excalibur a C- although probably had I seen it in the theatre when I was 15, I'd have loved it.
Maybe I made it all the way through just to watch Helen Mirren. Loved Patrick Stewart stuggling to draw Excalibur from the rock, ha! There are a few scenes that are nearly great--riding out, banner and cherry blossoms for one. But the whole thing, put together in the way that it is, well it is a bit of a disaster: The only character I cared a damn about was Perceval, and the only character that doesn't look completely ridiculous is Mordred.
I suppose Merlin holds the movie together somewhat. |
