That is one thing I admire the Pals for, they understand the value of land. Some few years ago, Native Americans in Nevada settled a long running court case for compensation. Some old USA deal had given them most of Nevada IIRC (that in itself is quite a hoot, given that they were here first) but over time, the whites of course ignored it and occupied most the land anyway. Since the Indian didn't get redress in court until the modern civil rights era, they couldn't enforce anything. So, to quote Bush, "realities on the ground" were quite different when they did get their day in court. Lots of Pale Faces owned big cities like Vegas on their ancestral (and legal) home. In the end, the tribes settled for (IIRC) $20K per person. They freaking owned most of Nevada legally, and sold for $20K each?? Once again the Red Man sells his land for a few glass beads. Quite a story in contrast, the Native American and the Pal IMO.
