I'm saying that I consider myself "daul loyalty" as well, and don't see that as bad. America is improved if people are willing to pull America towards stronger ties with the rest of the world. What I hate most about America is the strong bias of many here to view the USA as God's gift to the World, and one that has the devine right to be #1.
If I had my way, one year of HS or college would be required to live abroad for every American.
I don't see so much problem with Jewish-Americans, as I see that Americans in general don't want to look more fairly into the M.E. I understand perfectly why Nadine does not have what IMO is a more balanced view. When/if peace comes to Israel, I expect Nadine to be just fine with it. That does not prevent me from thinking that she needs a minor application of a bulldozer to nudge her views around in order to get a lasting peace.
Regarding theocracy, that is not the issue in Israel. It is an ethnic state, not a religious one. I've long ago come to the conclusion that ethnic democracies have a place, and I'm sure that Israel is one example. The problem we face is that we have no idea how to admit the benefits of ethnicity without encouraging racism and bigotry. The problems are related, but we should face the issues and make progress.
Myself, I'm way more radical on that issue, because I'm way past just considering ethnicity in one species, and I'd extent moral treatment to other species as well, something I see as being on a logical continuum with how we relate to ethnicity within our own species. |
