Some American Idol Fans Feel Cheated That No One Went Home

By Joe Reality on American Idol

Seacrest_twoIn regards to the Idol Gives Back special, Simon Cowell had said "it's not about keeping some stupid singer in the competition, it's a bit more important than that this week." During the American Idol top six results show, America found out just how right Simon Cowell was, as Ryan Seacrest revealed that no one would be going home.

Ryan Seacrest said "Over the weeks, we've asked you to vote for your favorites, and tonight, all of your favorites are still in the competition. How could we let anybody go on a charity night? So all your votes are still valid, this week's votes will be added to next week's votes, and we will send home the bottom two next week."

This shocking twist by Ryan Seacrest has left some fans upset. While many fans appreciated the fact that no one was eliminated on a charity show, other fans felt like they were tricked into watching a two hour telethon. Some viewers didn't feel that it was right to bill Idol Gives Back as a results show if no one was going home at the end.

Some viewers also didn't feel like it was right to add a new rule twist in the middle of the competition. While this week's votes weren't thrown out and will still count as they are going to be added to next week's vote, the twist still could have a huge impact on who ultimately goes home. Because there were 70 million votes cast this week in large part due to the charity component, it could be difficult for the bottom two from this week to move out of the bottom spots no matter how well they do next week.

For instance, suppose that Chris Richardson had the lowest vote total this week and Lakisha Jones had the second lowest vote total. If Chris Richardson had been eliminated, then Lakisha Jones would have gotten a fresh start next week. However, because of the twist, Lakisha Jones (or whoever had the second lowest vote total) gets stuck with votes being carried over from this week. Even if Lakisha Jones (or whoever had the second lowest vote total) had the highest number of votes next week, they might still get eliminated because of the votes being added in from this week. If someone has a great performance next week and goes home, then there will likely be a huge controversy over how the vote carryover wasn't fair.
