PS --- I've said for a long time around here that, because of the political proportions in Washington now, the ONLY truly important things to watch this year --- vis a vie US/Iraq policy --- is the degree of the shifting among the REPUBLICANS inside the beltway.

It's a delicate dance: do they ride Dubbya's ship down to G.O.P. disaster in '08... or are they clever enough to move in time to extricate themselves from his disaster to save, and perhaps revitalize, their Party's prospects?

(THAT remains the truly interesting political development to watch in 2007 and --- early, only very early --- 2008.)
