it took about ten years of managers fighting over having customers pump their own gas or not. basically, the argument was back then a woman would never pump her own gas. so you got two prices and two islands, one pump your own and the other for a fee , higher price to get it pumped for you.

later another fight started over self service at the pump ,, or pay at the pump. this was almost as hard to get done as pumping your gas. why? well you have a light products manager responsible for gasoline sales,, and then you had the new build out of snack shops and closing of mechanic bays,(company didn't make money on bays and we went out of the tire and accessory business), so the snack shop manager , who's profits were growing beyond anyone's dreams , cigs highest profit margin in stations, felt if the customer paid at the pump they wouldn't come into the store and buy impulse snack foods. so it took a long time to get pay at the pump.

sorry for the flash backs.. i guess i am still dreaming.
