Self-defense seems to be an American concept, one that has remained valid in rural areas.
In American cities and in other countries, the attitude seems to be, guns kill people, so if you have a gun, you're a killer.
Very false logic.
Not likely to prevail in the US any time soon, due to geographical demographics.
City people naturally have a different way of looking at the world than country people, but the way our republic is set up, the cities can't dominate the rest of the country.
There is a lot of crime in the cities, which is the odd thing.
But, as in your experience, muggers don't need guns to mug people. I was mugged a couple of times, always with someone wielding a knife, until I learned "street smarts", which is really one's best protection.
In America, the great divide is between people who aren't looking for a hand-out, at worst a hand up, and people who have a sense of wounded entitlement. |
