After six years of research, many car companies are getting ready to produce hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) on a large scale.

Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp presented its HEVs at the recent Shanghai Auto Show. Meanwhile, Chery plans to release its HEV with a nickel-hydrogen cell within this year and Changan¡¯s industrialization of HEV will be launched in 2008.

Shanghai Volkswagen will provide 500 HEVs for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and go into large-scale production before the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition.
