Usually, any one time item gets excluded from the forecasts. For example, if they are reducing staff then the company takes a one time hit for the expenses involved in cutting these people. Likewise, if they pay down some debt or do something that won't be done every quarter, then these are often excluded from the future estimates unless they have an ongoing affect down the road.
