Well, the current Tesla gets a 250 mile range. My current gas powered car gets around 250 miles per tank. So I'd be fully satisfied. Also, battery technology is evolving rapidly. An affordable electric car with a range of 300 miles per charge and fast charge capabilities is right around the corner. I'd say 5 years is optimistic, but 10 years is doable. It only needs continued focus.

Tesla wants to come out with a $50K, fully electric, 4-door sedan within 2 years. They already have a $100K, fully electric, 2 door sportcar that gets 250 miles per charge and has fast charge capabilities. Then they also want to build a $20K fully electric, 4-door sedan within 4-5 years.

Anyway, we can solve this problem to the consumer's satisfaction with technology. The only question is who will own those tech patents, Japan or the US? Right now, it is decidely in favor of Japan. Ouch.
