It doesn't prove anything. I didn't claim that it did. But it is an indicator and a valuable part of the analysis. If you want to assess whether something is cruel to a certain group, you have to ask at least some members of that group, not rely entirely on the perceptions of those who are 1) outside the group and 2) hostile to the group. People in the target group are considerably more likely to think that a comment aimed at that group is cruel than people outside the target group. Group members have greater sensitivity to insult. If you want to know whether something is insulting to, say, blacks or Jews or Texans, you don't rely solely on the opinions of white, Christian, Californians. The people I asked are smart, articulate, and engaged members of Crow's group. I reported what they said. Like I said, FWIW.
