MD:

Here's my assessment FWIW:

1. IMO, 90% of the global warming movement is a joke.

For example, the whole notion of carbon credits and Gore's pronouncements that he buys them to live a carbon neutral lifestyle. To me, that is an SNL skit. It is an LOL claim. But disciples of the movement treat the carbon offsets notion as though it were inscribed on stone tablets or issued from some burning bush. They believe because they want to believe. It's an article of faith. It has to be faith because it's nonsensical in practice. A balm for the guilty hearts of those with larger than life carbon footprints who want others to do the sacrificing for them.

2.Cults draw the lunatic fringe and those who think they're brilliant because they have public notoriety

GW movement is a cult or at least is much like a cult. That explains the use of terms like "deniers." "Deniers?" Puhleeze!
The beauty of cults is that they give the members with the money or ability to get noticed the chance to rise to the top and have a forum for their personal aggrandizement.

A Sheryl Crow type can hardly claim to understand the science,
but she can assert her status as a celebrity *non-denier* and try to offer solutions. Evidently, she and her cohort, non-denier Mrs. David (who is like the Hillary Clinton of the movie industry during Bill's terms), have lots of answers to *solving* global warming and have probably been buying the heck out of carbon credits to offset their lavish use of carbon in their personal lifestyles and *advocacy* efforts. (See # 1 above)

3. When you blend Nos. 1 and 2 above, and overlay them on the informal nature of blogs and the ease with which a person can publish his or her incomplete thoughts, it's not hard to see that Crow was at least half serious in what she was saying. But only half. The whole thing became a complete *joke* after people cried "What did you say?" amid raucous laughter from some quarters. Generally cult members don't like to be laughed at so the claim of joke-making was probably a little tough for Sheryl to have to swallow. Give the girl a break, MD!

4. If Sheryl wasn't serious at all and was attempting a joke, then she should give up humor and leave it to the pros. It's rather an irony that with all the comic talent on the left (here I'm referring to intentionally funny comedians, etc. not those who end up funny through their own hubris), we have a parade of people blown up by supposed *joke malfunctions*. John Kerry's so-called *joke* about the military is a recent example.

5.Finally, joking can also be hazardous to one's career. Ask Don Imus. Crow might want to stick to things she can do. I'm not even sure singing is necessarily one of them, but being a public advocate for global warming issues is probably not either.
