I think the best thing mothers can do, assuming they want to BE mothers (and if they don't, why have kids?) is to stay home and raise their children.

I will recommend your post because I so completely agree with you about motherhood. I left work after I had my boys, but certainly don't believe any of my education- under or grad-- was wasted. In fact, I went back and got more while they were in school. Education isn't just about making a living. It enriches you and enables you to be a much better person and parent, imo.

When I look back over my life, it isn't the social work, or the singing, or the teaching, or the writing, or the volunteer work that I am proud of. It's my sons. They are my proudest accomplishment- and I used my education and all of the above jobskills in raising them.

And hey, it WAS work. Anyone who read me over the past ten years at DAR knows how hard I worked at being Mother of the Year, Domestic Goddess Nonpareil.
