I don't know if this is a typo, wishfull thinking or what but Motorola is excluded and 28% is unaccounted for. I don't ever recalled seeing anything out of Qualcomm that supports such numbers. It looks like it might be some form of "essential patent" response to the Goodman and Carr report. Whatever the approach it sure is weird to see Nokia quoted as having 3%.

These numbers are actually from the Q sponsered paper which counted the number of patent citations for the essential patents to determine the relative value of the patent portfolios.

Two broad points about this method....

- The Nokia number really is stunningly low. How in the world does IDCC have more citations to their patents than Nokia? Regardless of what you think of this method (and personally, I see it as substantially more valid than counting patents), the Nokia number is an eye opener.

- I wonder what Q's citation count would look like if they excluded the patents for which Nokia has a "paid up" license.
