Seriously, what would you do? Well, the whole point of my post to you was that there are two ways to approach these extreme situations, and that trying to pin people down by using the emotional level is not (imo) a legitimate test of an ideal. As a mother I would tear out your fingernails and stick them in your eyeballs to save my child. BUT, knowing that, I also accept that I can't use that as my criteria for how I want us to behave as a nation. I can't assume that beating up everyone we capture will yield the information that will save anyone at all. And I am not willing to become the sort of country that tortures on the offchance it might reveal something. Frankly, I don't know exactly where the line is drawn, Michael, but I don't believe that asking people how they would respond in their role as a mother is the right way to arrive at our ideal. Does that make any sense?
