Don;t you think this a rather accurate mini-representation of what happens in the world? That is the most informative part of these threads. When you read history you realize how many pivotal points hung on a personal relationship, a business deal, a misunderstanding.
Foreign affairs are no more than a kind of glorified and exaggerated human condition.

A couple of years ago, we were in Edinburgh, and we stood in the chambers of Mary, Queen of Scots, and heard about the assassination of her lover, David Rizzio (sp?). And all I could think is how much of world history comes down to these basic things: greed, sex, power.

I am not sure how different things are these days, but I am quite sure that we see the same basic drives and emotions played out repeatedly.
