Since I buy a lot of new IPOs I see this often, the only difference is that in SPWRs case the holder of these shares is another company CY and typically the holder is a venture capital firm.

I suspect this was a private equity arrangement. These don't affect the trading float materially. It does affect the float value on yahoo, but this is another example of the actual float vs tradable float. These are sold directly to some fund. There is always some negative reaction in the markets to it, but it is short lived.

From what I understand the CFOs of the new companies are in contact with wall street and they are notified that a fund needs to buy "in size". At which point the CFO contacts the insiders and tries to arrange a sale. This is something fund managers do for hot, new companies.

The solar companies are correcting right now but you have to correct sometime and the market is just looking for a reason. I think SPWR is going to triple from here.
