I suspect, if someone asked the right questions, they'd find that Thompson didn't quit because of the workload, but rather the incessant fundraising and petty bickering in Congress.

I personally like his calm, rational way of discussing issues. He seems to be more enamored of common sense than of party positions.

Yes, I agree that he was on the wrong side of McCain/Feingold, but nobody's perfect. And I think he was on the wrong side for the right reasons, even though the bill was horrible. Betcha if asked, he wouldn't support it today after seeing how things worked out. The supposed intent of the bill was to reduce the money chase in elections and to try to minimize the influence of PACs and other special interests. For that, the bill was a total flop.

I may change my mind if he actually enters the race and we learn more about him and what he thinks about current issues. Maybe knowing so little about him is his biggest asset?
