I didn't see the quote, but I'd be interested in what Ballmer was defining as "the market." I believe 3 million phones with Windows Mobile were sold last quarter, which would put Microsoft at only 1% of the overall phone market. Perhaps he was talking about the smartphone market only? The enterprise market? I'm fairly certain he would not be ridiculing a new entrant by saying they would immediate grab 3x their market share.
