George, back to serious discussions of technology. What do you think of CVUS and LMDS? Are you planning on writing an article about LMDS before the FCC auctions 28 GHZ spectrum in December? Into the fiberspace might be usurped by into space by LMDS. I have been in conversations with ISP people about LMDS and its potential. We all agree, this could be quite a boon to ISP's. On the other side, they all agreed that copper has been more reliable on a real term basis, and one of them has run into problems and lost customers due to donw time of his fiber link. I have been tossing around the idea of leasing spectrum from someone who has acquired it at the auction to start a LMDS service. Well there are lots of things to do,we would need space on a Satellite tower,we would need funding in the millions of dollars, we are planing on targetting ISP's for resale. Do you think the high frequency, wide bandwidth, low power of LMDS will work in areas like the Southeast? Do you think signal attenuation do to rain can be overcome? Would we have to increase the number of transmitters exponentially?
Whoever can bring wide bandwidth, fast speeds,no connection, wireless in my opinion will be the winner. I am not so sure wire based systems will win in the end. What is you opinion of cheap, ubiquitous, wide band wireless, and can this be done? New digital transmission technology. along with 2- way LMDS might be the way to go.
