Competitive Technologies to Commercialize Low Cost HDTV Camera -- New Low Cost High Performance Digital Video Camera Will Open Up The Market For HDTV -- Advanced Prototype Completed

FAIRFIELD, Conn., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ via Individual Inc. -- Competitive
Technologies, Inc. (Amex: CTT) has entered into an agreement with MRT, Inc.
to serve
as licensing agent in the commercialization of MRT's exciting new low cost
high
definition digital color video camera system. An advanced prototype system
has been
developed. This advanced system allows more compact, higher performance
digital
video cameras to be manufactured at lower cost. Under the terms of the
agreement with
MRT, CTT will market the technology to selected companies in Europe and the
Asia
Pacific.

CTT's commercialization strategy is to forge licensing, collaboration and
joint venture
partnerships with major consumer electronics and digital imaging
corporations to
develop a range of digital video and digital still cameras for multiple
markets and
applications.

The camera was developed over a period of 10 years by the Emmy award-
winning
inventor, Dr. William E. Glenn, formerly of CBS, RCA and Sarnoff Research
Laboratories.
The camera system generates high color digital video signals at a increased
line and
frame rate above the scanning capability of the sensors used in the camera
without the
problems of poor motion rendition and picture degradation that would
normally result
from simple scan conversion to higher frame and line rates.

An advanced prototype system has been developed. It can generate a high
definition
video output signal (i.e. 1080 visible lines per frame with 1920 pixel per
line) which is
progressively scanned at 60 frames per second (i.e. a line rate of 64,800
visible lines per
second) using CCD sensors capable of being driven at half the frame rate
and line rate
(i.e. 30 frames per second and 32,499 lines per second respectively). The
system enables
smaller, higher performance digital video cameras to be manufactured at
lower cost, than
presently possible. In addition, this system will allow an original high
quality digital
image to be maintained even where the recording and distribution bandwidths
are
limited -- this has important applications in video conferencing and
digital image
transmissions across the Internet.

Dr. Peter D. Holden, Senior Vice President for CTT and Commercialization
Manager for
the MRT project, commented, "The MRT Camera makes high definition digital
video
recording and distribution a reality. Its compact design and low cost will
allow us to
break down the traditional divide between professional studio camera and
consumer
camcorder applications and allow us to enter new markets where HDTV quality
video
images were previously technically unattainable or commercially
impractical."

Jim Davis, President and CEO of MRT micro, said, "MRT is very excited about
our
strategic relationship with Competitive Technologies Inc. CTT is recognized
as a world
leader in the licensing and commercialization of advanced breakthrough
technologies to
large multinational corporations. Our HDTV camera system fits perfectly
into their
portfolio and takes advantage of both companies' strengths and core
competencies."

MRT micro, ASA, is a Norwegian company engaged in the development,
marketing and
sales of digital imaging and digital medical instrumentation products. The
company
specialized in the capture, integration and communication of digital data
over intelligent
networks utilizing unique information management and communications
software. The
Company's US headquarters are located in San Diego, CA.

Competitive Technologies, Inc. -- based in Fairfield, CT, with offices in
Bethlehem, PA;
Cleveland, OH; Osaka, Japan and London, England -- is in the technology
transfer
business concentrating primarily on the commercialization and licensing of
high-tech
company and university research. CTT has evaluated over 25,000
technologies, been
responsible for closing several hundred license agreements, and helped
launch 15 new
companies. Important CTT clients include: IBM, Bell Atlantic, Lucent
Technologies,
Matsushita Electric Industrial, Corning Glass, and British Broadcasting
Corp. CTT also
has been awarded a number of collaborative R&D contracts involving
