Medarex Swings To 1Q Profit On Gain From Sale >MEDX

Medarex Inc. (MEDX) said late Tuesday it swung to a first-quarter profit of $110.3 million, or 80 cents a share, from a year-ago loss of $36.6 million, or 33 cents a share.

The first quarter of 2007 included a gain of $152.1 million, or $1.22 a share, from the February sale of roughly 2.5 million shares of Genmab A/S stock.

Excluding the impact of the sale and other items, Medarex reported a loss of $35.9 million, or 29 cents a share.

Revenue fell to $11.5 million from $13.1 million in the comparable period last year.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial were expecting, on average, a per-share loss of 37 cents on revenue of $13 million.

Medarex is biopharmaceutical based in Princeton, N.J.
