"Funny that you said the liberals love Tenet. I don't think anybody likes Tenet."

Precisely. As that post illustrates, he should have manned up a long time ago. If he had, we wouldn't have been in nearly such a mess.

But he didn't. He accepted his Medal of Freedom and wrote his book. If he had only gone public earlier....

I think it is interesting when you compare the way Israel reacted when they screwed up in Lebanon, and the way we have reacted to our screwup in Iraq. In Israel, the criticism started early, with none of this casting of aspersions about the critics being traitors or comforting the enemy. When the complaints got loud enough, the government finally listened and shut the operation down without any of the nonsense about emboldening the enemy. And finally, they just released a report that analyzed the whole affair in a realistic manner and labeled it a mistake, without any dancing around about how it would only strengthen the bad guys if it were released.

But, with universal conscription, the politicians have a skin in the game. It is their kids, nieces and nephews who are out there dodging bullets. Not just some faceless volunteers.
