WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--The Federal Reserve said Thursday it's planning a public hearing to look into how the central bank can use its regulatory authority to "curb abusive lending practices" in the mortgage market, including the subprime market.
The hearing is scheduled for June 14.

"The goal is to find ways to promote sustainable homeownership through responsible lending, informed consumer choice, and effective guidance and regulation," said Federal Reserve Governor Randall Kroszner, who plans on chairing the hearing.
