... and now Alain Mutricy joins Moto as SVP, Platform Technology for Mobile Devices.
This can't be good news for QUALCOMM who hopes to win WCDMA chipset business from Motorola who is also working with TI for that business.
Alain Mutricy's comment quoted below was the basis for QUALCOMM bringing suit against TI in July 25, 2003 and charging that Texas Instruments violated terms of its cross-license agreement by disclosing key information about its business relationship in early May of 2003.
Speaking at a technology session for financial analysts here Tuesday, Alain Mutricy, vice president of TI's wireless terminals business unit, said TI will make a formal announcement “very soon.” Sampling is expected to begin next quarter. Mutricy emphasized that because of a cross-licensing agreement made two years ago, TI will not pay royalties to Qualcomm, the San Diego based company that pioneered CDMA technology. “Quite clearly, there will not be a royalty stream on that chipset under the terms of our agreement with Qualcomm made two years back,” he said. Prior to leading Cellular Systems Solutions, Mutricy was general manager for the Texas Instruments OMAP™ business, which he led from start-up status to global leadership between 2000 and 2004. Additionally, from the time he joined Texas Instruments in 1989, Mutricy was promoted through a series of general-management positions, each with increasing scope and responsibility in areas including sales, marketing and general management.
