Margie - I'm puzzled. The PIs reduce the virus to undetectable levels. How does anyone know that some HIV positives will not be eventually cured by PI treatments? Unless I'm missing something those that are saying that PIs do not offer a cure are only basing their comments on the fact that some patients have developed PI resistant forms of the virus. I beleive that some folks have been HIV negative for at least 2 years, as a result of PI therapy. Who is to say that some of these patients ultimately will not turn out to be cured. I keep hearing people say that PIs do not offer a cure. I think it is more accurate to say that those that have developed resistant HIV need different ammunition, and that some current HIV negative patients will in the future develop resistant HIV, but it is too early to say how long the PIs can work in a given patient, and it is too early to say that some patients will not in the end be cured. If I am wrong, please explain. I think this is important because I've gotten the idea from this thread that some are of the definite opinion that PIs can't cure HIV. Maybe they can't, but how does anyone know for sure at this time?
