There's a big difference between having a dictator and having Hitler. How can you know that ahead of time? Most dictators end up getting fairly ruthless........maybe not to the degree of a Hitler or a Stalin but ruthless nonetheless. The point is you reference the possibility of a dicatator when appropriate in an effort to prevent it from happening. And Hitler has come to epitomize the 'badness' of dicators; hence the numerous comparisons to him. BTW for all of Jon Stewart's moralizing, he too referenced Hitler in one of his sketches......look at the youtube clip Baked Alaska has posted in the last 24 hours.
