I have a most outrageous story to relate.

One of my neighbors is the mother of twin boys, both freshmen at the local high school.

One of her sons is involved in the HS ROTC, and enjoys shooting. He has a friend who keeps his gun under his bed (loaded). His mom, our neighbor, found out about this and said he cannot spend the night at the other kid's house.

Now, just this weekend, our neighbor found out this other kid posted a picture on MySpace.com that showed him and another kid pointing handguns at the kid's two year old sister!!! And, get this, the mother of the little girl (and the older boy) TOOK the picture.

Our neighbor was incensed and got on the phone. The police are involved. HS principal is aware of it. I suspect Child Protective Services will get involved, as it should.

The mother seems to think there is nothing wrong with this behavior. I almost got physically ill looking at the picture. Any and all consequences that befall this woman are warranted IMO.

Oh, and the two kids were planning military careers. That may be in doubt, and well it should. What kind of judgment does it show for two 17 or 18 year olds to point handguns at a child? Isn't the first rule of gun safety to assume that any firearm is LOADED??? And these are boys who were involved in the HS ROTC program.

Something off kilter there for sure.
