I presume Joe Lieberman, as a Jew, and Mitt Romney, as a Mormon, might practice their faiths in a manner somewhat differently than would a fundamentalist Christian.
Absolutely...
Should this matter, assuming they are felt to be decent men and that decency helped guide their decisions?
Exactly correct, your question is really a statement, and one that is true and accurate... what makes the United States different from all other countries in the world, before us and present, is that our rights are endowed to us by our Creator, and there is no particular brand name religion assigned or attached to what "Creator" means...
It's our government's responsibility to ensure that these rights are protected by man made rules and laws... in contrast, in all other countries, citizen's rights are given to them by their governments (not by their Creator), and therefore can be taken away by those same governments... this is why our country is special and stands above the others... I don't see people sneaking across our borders to leave our country in the dark of night, or taking flimsy rafts to sea to escape our shores... there really is a difference between our country and all the others, despite the whiners who blame America first...
