I was listening to Rush this afternoon when one listener called to chat about health care... the caller blasted those who pressure the legislatures to mandate certain coverages such as infertility treatments, acupuncture and chiropractic care.

Of course, Rush ate it up, repeatedly intoning that Americans would face sharply higher costs and reduced choices if the LIBERALS installed a single payer government system.

No mention that America pays far more per capita for health care than any other nation on earth, yet by all measures have quality that ranks around 7th or thereabouts.

No mention that administrative costs are around 30% of our health care budget. By the way, Medicare administrative costs are around 5% of expenses.

No explanation it's OK for drug companies to charge folks in other countries half of what they charge us for the same prescription drugs.

No mention that so many of us are forced into HMOs and managed care plans where our choices are limited.

No discussion of how businesses are passing more and more of the health insurance burden to employees, who see rates increasing at double digit rates while paychecks increase by 2 or 3%, if at all.

It's good listening to him. He's convincing in that unique way of his so long as one doesn't compare his statements to the facts. Unfortunately, we have so many who want instant answers and believe him...
