Paul.... I have a great deal of respect for Mr. Gilder because of the wonderful book he wrote in the 1980"s "Wealth and Poverty" and his later "the Spirit of Enterprise". The former was instrumental in destroying the foundations of the welfare forever state. He was an outspoken advocate of capitalism in the days when it was a dirty word. We owe him for this. His articles in Forbes ASAP have become a bit too strident and repetitive, and I'm afraid he is starting to be a bore on the subject. He has a point about the potential of unlimited bandwidth. I know that since I got an @Home cable modem with speeds in the hundreds of bps, it has changed the way I use the www. However, I suspect that it will take many years for his vision to come about(if it happens at all), plenty of time to get rich off Intel. Eventually the desktop PC will vanish, replaced by a portable with vast communication potential.
