Swatting at flies...

Free members.

Now there's an interesting point of debate.

FREE members + FREE content (supplied by PAID members)
= big $$$ for SI.

SI's new business model is built around pay per click
banner and google ads...not paid memberships.

This is no longer a "paid membership site."

Paid membership fees pale in comparison to ad revenue.

Simply put - freeloaders clicking on ads pay the bills.

What's ironic and what will ultimately end that business
model -- is that the paid members who supply 98% of the
content on SI do not share, or benefit in any way (free
upgrades etc) in that ad revenue generated off of their
content.

Many old line SI posters who had large followings and who
provided great content - have either left SI, or blatantly
use SI as a linking platform to other sites where they
are monetizing their content.

Google and You Tube have recognized that failing to share
pay per click/banner ad revenue with conent providers
is a doomed business model. And SI - as late to the
pay per click game as they were...is already behind the
content monetization/ad revenue curve to the degree that
their present business model is doomed.

Earth to SI -- your ad/marketing consultant should be
taken out and promptly shot -- if he/she hasn't pounded
the table on letting the search engines spider the content
here on SI because ranking in the search engines generates
traffic and traffic determines PPC rates/revenue.

The old line paid members who provided the most valuable
content here on SI have left, are leaving, or are
transitioning to other platforms... and why shouldn't they?

It's one thing to create, or share content for free...it's
quite another to do it for free, to put up with the "noise"
generated by free members & multiple screen names...
all while enriching the pockets of someone else.

SI has become a shadow of it's former self. Remember the
article in Stocks & Commodities magazine?

Why would anyone work hard to generate valuable content
for free - while those reaping the rewards from that content
in turn bastardize the environment by flooding the portals
with freeloading shit bags?

Anyway... I go for days without checking this thread, or SI.
As such I don't really have any day to day way to police
this thread which has degenerated right along with SI as a
whole...

I don't see how anyone really takes SI as a content vehicle
seriously any more?

The old line posters whose content built it - don't. They've
left, or are transitioning off of it.

What's left is Yahooligans gone wild.

Multiple screen names. Floods of free posters and a bunch
of noise.

In case no one noticed...
I quit taking SI seriously long ago.

Remember those party lines in the old days - when kids
would pass around a note in class all day and then that
evening they would all call in at 10 p.m. and all you
heard was a bunch of noise...

It's like visiting a seedy, run down bar in the old
neighborhood when you go back to your hometown and visit
family and old friends. It brings back some fond memories,
but you don't really enjoy going back...and thus, you find
yourself going back less and less frequently...

Welcome to the new SI.

Live by FREE...die by FREE.

You get what you pay for.
