Laz, IMO you're giving short shrift to the "trouble." Long before that tanker limps into a US harbor, Syria and the Saudis will be forced to get involved to protect themselves, and Kuwait and the UAE will be overrun by the big boys. Jordan will try to stay neutral, but they probably won't be able to because they are the only buffer to Israel.

All of which means no mid eastern oil to the West, a situation that the West (and probably China and India) can't allow to exist.

A major terror event on US or European soil would be terrible, but will pale in comparison to the havoc that a prolonged oil crisis (and I mean CRISIS, not just an inconvenient shortage) would cause.
