The post that you respond to, was made after I got some questions on the adoption on OpenOffice, based on numbers on an external site. It is a general principle, that the longer a feature list is, the more customers you get. Microsoft has reached the point where they need existing customers to upgrade, and that's why they don't focus on the feature list any more, but even may remove features.

There is a lot of good, free stuff out there. I think that the the google search engine service is a very good example of an advertised free product, which many people like to use.

Microsoft is also providing a lot of free stuff.

But if you think it is brainwash, you should stop using all of this immediately.
