The inductor and capacitor, both could be variable, are used and/or adjusted to pass a radio carrier frequency. That frequency is modulated in amplitude to carry a signal. The crystal or rectifier or diode acts as a low pass filter pass only the amplitude of the signal. That voltage applied to a galvanometer a speaker or a telegraph key can reveal the signal. Does the construction by plans and use of such a radio give the user much of any understanding of electricity. Does the construction by plans and use of several weather instruments give an understanding or the complexity of water in the changing of weather. Millions can now construct radios of millions times more complexity and get them working perfectly and predict exactly how they will perform day after day. And million can spend millions and still are not be able to predict the weather next week. The mathematical complexity of water in the atmosphere is trillions of times more complex than creating precise radio waves that can carry millions of messages all at the same time.
