If you research Mormon beliefs, you really can't consider them Christian. They are kind of a bastard offshoot of Christianity, founded by a former con man who was running the greatest con or was charismatically self-deluded. I lean heavily toward con myself.

The Mormons have a real disadvantage. People were paying attention and writing things down when they were founded, in english! It's a fascinating story. This book is about one third annotated footnotes and is excellent.

A command from the current Prophet and Revelator is considered a command directly from God, which good Mormons are to obey instantly without question. The current prophet is a humble and kind man, but that wasn't always so, and likely won't be in the future. The Prophet also controls the untaxed billions from the 10% tithe every good Mormon must pay to the church. I suspect that's where a lot of Romney's money is coming from, other than his own pocket.
